Printed MaterialsMany events will require some sort of printed material, either to advertise the event or for use at the event itself. The Office of Publications and Communications will assist faculty, staff, and students on writing copy, design, and printing. If you are interested in hiring a designer to produce any of your printed pieces, please speak with "Cindy Ashwill"-cashwill, at illinois.edu-, who can guide you through the process and costs of hiring a designer. Conference programs and materialsHosting a conference usually calls for a large amount of printed materials to be created. It is important to schedule a meeting with Cindy at least six months before your event to discuss all aspects of your conference materials. Cindy can work with you to shape the contents of the program, put you in touch with a designer, and get your materials printed. Posters/FlyersYou may want to produce a flyer to hang around campus or to send to other campus departments to advertise your event. If you are interested in a simple informational flyer and need assistance creating it, please speak with "Kathy Painter"-painter, at illinois.edu-. She needs one week notice to create the flyer. If you only need a few copies for personal use, you can print them out on the GSLIS color printer. If you need more than 10 copies, please speak with the Publications Office to get them printed for you. Each department on campus has different policies about distributing flyers in their departments. The English department, for example, allows for a flyer to be posted, but if you provide them with enough copies, they will also distribute them in each graduate student’s mailbox. If you are going to advertise to a specific department, you should check their rules before sending them flyers. TemplatesThe Publications Office is in the process of developing a set of templates for frequently produced materials, such as flyers and posters. In addition to templates, we will be preparing a style guide, where you can download our logo and the University logo, and which will include usage guidelines for the logos. In the meantime, if you need assistance creating flyers for use around the school, please contact Kathy. If you need an electronic file of the GSLIS or University logos, contact Cindy. Copyediting/proofreadingIt is always a good idea to have another person proofread any materials you produce. With enough advance notice, staff in the Publications Office can be this "second set of eyes." Let Cindy know at least one week before you are sending your materials to the printer if you would like someone to proofread them.
