Staffing Your Event

Students

Depending on the size of your event, you may need to consider hiring a graduate hourly student to help with support tasks. Offering students the chance to work at an event can be a good way to give them experience with arranging professional activities. A graduate assistant, who is intended to support research and teaching, is a good choice to help maintain a website. If you need general support help, consider hiring a graduate hourly.

GSLIS Sponsorship and Support

GSLIS's support, through the use of staff resources and overhead, is important to further the mission of the school. But hosting an event carries hidden costs to GSLIS in the form of staff hours and building overhead.

As important as these events are, we don't have unlimited resources. To best plan how and where to use these resources throughout the year, we ask that you meet with Dean Unsworth at the outset of planning any event (this includes anything from a lecture with reception to a conference) to determine if GSLIS can sponsor or support the event or if additional funding is needed.
